Audio Transcript: Description of Level A

What does a performance that falls within the range of a level A actually mean?

Well, candidates must demonstrate an ability to:

  • Understand most speech delivered slowly and clearly, dealing with concrete and routine topics;
  • Make themselves understood in short statements, even with pauses and false starts;

  • Talk about everyday aspects of routine activities and handle a simple question-and-answer exchange.

The level A candidate has sufficient knowledge of basic vocabulary and grammatical structures to conduct routine conversations. However, their first official language interferes with the clarity of the message.

While the candidate’s pronunciation requires close attention, there are no long stretches that are unclear.

Now listen to audio excerpts of interviews of level A candidates.
